World Of Warcraft TownPortalScrolls

Town Portal Scrolls transport a Hero and nearby units, including other Heroes, to either one of your Town Hall buildings or a friendly allied Town Hall building. Your first Hero receives a free Town Portal Scroll when first trained from your Altar. Additional Town Portal Scrolls can be purchased at Player-built Shops for 350 Gold.

When a Hero activates a Town Portal scroll they become invulnerable. Any nearby units are not invulnerable so they can still be destroyed. After a short casting period (5 sec. cast time) the Hero will then transport with the surviving units. Because of this casting delay it is very important to use the Town Portal Scroll at the right time so that you do not lose all of your units while you are waiting to transport. It is best to try to run away, then use the scroll, or just be willing to lose units.

Town Portal Scrolls do not transport allied units, even if you are controlling a dropped player's army. Keep this in mind.

Town Portal Scrolls do not transport workers (Acolytes/Wisps/Peasants/Peons) unless they are idle.

Town Portal Scrolls are an integral part of a good player's library of moves. Newbie players will often walk to a location rather than just using a Town Portal Scroll sometimes resulting in them losing the game!

Using a Town Portal Scroll is very easy. Simply hit 7 (or whichever slot your scroll is in) on the number pad (with Num Lock key on) and click on the minimap near a friendly Town Hall. You can also double click on the Town Portal Scroll which will automatically select the highest (allied) Town Hall as a transport destination.

When your Town Portal Scroll is gone, buy another one. This is especially important in team games. The enemy is often expecting you to only have one Town Portal.

Harvesting, building, and repairing workers are the only units left behind by a teleport.

Targeting an unwalkable location with a Scroll of Town Portal will try to place units as close to that location as possible. If no valid location can be found, the units will be teleported to an area around the town hall.

Town Portal Scroll Feints
Sometimes, experienced players will perform hit-and-run attacks early in the game for the purpose of making you waste your Town Portal Scroll. In team games, they can do this by having both players of the team send in a few units to give the appearance of a double team (or more with more allies) while the attack is really a fake attack designed to cause you to waste your Town Portal Scroll(s). The feinting players will then attack another location now that you've been drawn away. Make sure the enemy is sending their full force before using your Town Portal Scroll!

Town Portal Scrolls are useful for the following things: Use Town Portal Scrolls to return to defend your town early in the game
Before Town Portal Scrolls, a common problem players faced was being off adventuring with a Hero and initial troops only to discover their town being under attack. By the time you got back to defend your town you might have lost all your workers and even some buildings. The Town Portal Scroll allows you to return back to your town faster then normally, to defend it if an enemy attacks. Beware of early attacks designed to make you waste your Town Portal Scroll.

Use Town Portal Scrolls to Defend an expansion
When your expansion is under attack, you can use a Town Portal Scroll to teleport to it and save it.

Use Town Portal Scrolls to meet up with allies
You can save time by teleporting to an ally's Town Hall to meet up with him so you can head out and double team (or greater with more allies) the enemy.

Use Town Portal Scrolls to save allies' Town Halls and expansions
If you discover your ally's town is under attack, you can both use a Town Portal Scroll to nearly instantly teleport there to save it.

Use Town Portal Scrolls to Escape!
Expert players often use a Town Portal Scroll to escape certain death from an enemy. Some players decide to use their Town Portal Scroll to save their Hero and some of their surrounding units rather than run or to let them die. But be warned that there is a casting timer so you may lose some units while you're waiting to transport. If the battle is not going your way, it's time to go (port out).

Use Town Portal Scrolls to launch hit-and-run attacks
Sneak into the enemy town and attack it. Wait until you draw all of the enemy players to defend the town and then use your Town Portal Scroll teleport away and attack somewhere else. You can then go buy another Town Portal Scroll. This is very necessary in FFA games to make progress.

Team Games
Make sure you tell your allies when to use their Town Portal Scrolls. If you're being attacked and need help, ask them to teleport to you to save you. Generally, good players know when to use their Town Portal Scroll, but newer allied players might need some guidance.

Don't double click on your Town Portal unless you want to go back to your Hall. You need to manually select the right location if you want to go to the right allied Town Hall.

Hero Trap Town
Avoid building "Hero Trap Towns". Heroes can become trapped when they teleport to a Town Hall with a lot of buildings packed closely around it. Leave plenty of space around the Town Hall so that you and your allies can safely teleport to that Town Hall without becoming stuck.

Aiming Town Portals
You can aim where you appear when you Teleport into a town. Just click around the Town Hall where you want to land. You have to scroll your screen to the right location for this to work rather than clicking on the minimap. This is very useful if you're say the melee person (Grunts) and you need to be placed near some enemy ranged units (Archers). You can SPAWN KILL someone (almost) by teleporting on top of them with the right counter. Also if you have some Archers you don't want to teleport right into the enemy melee units, so you can teleport in a good spot.

Additional Tips
Always have a Town Portal Scroll. If you use yours, go buy another one. If the enemy sees you use your Town Portal Scroll they may make attacks thinking you don't have a Town Portal Scroll. Surprise them by getting another one. Remember that enemy players can select your Hero and check your items, however.

The Seven Kingdoms (1,200 years before Warcraft I)

Strom continued to act as the central hub of Arathor, but as with Dalaran, many new city-states arose across the continent of Lordaeron. Gilneas, Alterac, and Kul Tiras were the first city-states to arise, and although they each had their own customs and commercial workings, they all held to the unifying authority of Strom.

Under the vigilant watch of the Order of Tirisfal, Dalaran became the chief center of learning for magicians throughout the land. The Magocrats who ruled Dalaran founded the Kirin Tor, a specialized sect that was charged with cataloguing and researching every spell, artifact, and magic item known to mankind at the time.

Gilneas and Alterac became strong supporters of Strom and developed mighty armies that explored the mountainous southern lands of Khaz Modan. It was during this period that humans first met the ancient race of dwarves and traveled to their cavernous subterranean city of Ironforge. The humans and dwarves shared many secrets of metal-smithing and engineering and discovered a common love for battle and storytelling.

The city-state of Kul Tiras, founded upon a large island south of Lordaeron, developed a prosperous economy based on fishing and shipping. Over time, Kul Tiras built up a mighty fleet of merchant vessels that sailed throughout the known lands in search of exotic goods to trade and sell. Yet even as the economy of Arathor flourished, its strongest elements began to disintegrate.

In time, the lords of Strom sought to move their estates to the lush northlands of Lordaeron and leave the arid lands of the south. The heirs of King Thoradin, the last descendants of the Arathi bloodline, argued that Strom should not be abandoned and thus incurred the displeasure of the greater citizenry, who were likewise eager to leave. The lords of Strom, seeking to find purity and enlightenment in the untamed north, decided to leave their ancient city behind. Far to the north of Dalaran, the lords of Strom built a new city-state which they named Lordaeron. The entire continent would take its name from this city-state. Lordaeron became a mecca for religious travelers and all those who sought inner peace and security.

The descendents of the Arathi, left within the crumbling walls of ancient Strom, decided to travel south past the rocky mountains of Khaz Modan. Their journey finally ended after many long seasons, and they settled in the northern region of the continent they would name Azeroth. In a fertile valley they founded the kingdom of Stormwind, which quickly became a self-sufficient power in its own right.

The few warriors still left in Strom decided to remain and guard the ancient walls of their city. Strom was no longer the center of the empire, but it developed into a new nation known as Stromgarde. Though each of the city-states became prosperous in its own right, the empire of Arathor had effectively disintegrated. As each nation developed its own customs and beliefs, they became increasingly segregated from one another. King Thoradin's vision of a unified humanity had faded at last.
